Chaplain Commissioning

We were really thrilled to welcome Rt Revd Dr Richard Cheetham. Bishop of Kingston on Wednesday 11th October to St Martin's for the commissioning of our new school Chaplain, Mrs Moorey. The girls were excited to meet him, and have a Bishop come to the school. The whole school gathered together and welcomed Mrs Moorey, making promises to support her as our chaplain, just as she promised to be responsible for making sure that the school is rooted in Christian values, and ensure that each person here is valued and recognised as being created in the image of God.

After the Commissioning service, where we listened to Rev. Simon Gates remind us of the example of St Martin, Bishop Richard came to dedicate our new school chapel in a short service. The students were represented by our senior leadership team, form captains from Years 7 to 9, and the Year 10 GCSE Art group, who are designing and making stained glass windows for the chapel. Mrs Moorey told us of her hopes for how the chapel will be used by the school community and how she wants to make sure that all the students know that God cares for them - "I want you to know that I am here to show you God's love, and that's not hard, because you are really lovable". Then Bishop Richard dedicated our chapel and said a blessing for the school.

After the service, our Year 10 girls had the opportunity to speak with Bishop Richard and show him their designs for the stained glass windows. They explained in great detail how to make stained glass, so even the bishop learned something new.

This event marks the next exciting chapter in the story of St Martin's, as we live out our Christian values and look forward to the things that the fresh, new St Martin's Chaplaincy will bring.
