Welcome back Year 10

Back to Latest News

On Monday 15 June, we were excited  to welcome Year 10 students to school after being away for 87 days!

Members of staff stood by the main gate to welcome the girls as they arrived. We could see that some of the girls were a little overwhelmed, walking back into their school which now seemed so strange. Lots of markings and signs, being directed to stand on a circle painted on the ground and being spoken to from a distance. We explained our procedures that were in place for everyone's safety and did this in our usual way, 'with love and learning'.

Slowly their faces changed from looking worried and anxious to having expressions of reassurance, smiling and ready to take this step for which they had been planning over the last week.  They realised we were the same, their teachers who cared for them and missed them, we were concerned about their learning, their safety and wellbeing, this was their school, this was their St Martin's family that they had missed being a part of.

The girls spent time with their Art and Music teachers and were able to get the support they needed to help them over the next few days until their next onsite lesson.

On leaving, one of the students said "I was really nervous about coming back but as always the teachers at St Martin's made it alright."  Another said, "I was pleased to see other students in my year group and have face to face time with my teacher".

We were really pleased to see you and look forward to you coming in over the next few weeks so that we can support you with your learning.  We will also welcome back some of our Year 12 students later this week and next week.
